LogoThe project logo specifically depicts the wheel-like belt ring of a Sámi woman's outfit. As can be inferred from its name, the belt ring is attached to the wearer's belt and in addition to a change purse, a knife, needle box, scissors, etc., can be hung from it. Sometimes men even hung hunting equipment from the belt wheel. Belt wheels have various types of motifs, some of which have Christian features. The logo's degenerated animal motif, with its oriental influences, has been used by the Sámi in the north of Sweden since the Late Middle Ages. More delicate rings based on a similar theme have been found in Russia and Kuusamo. These more delicate belt rings are probably the plaited pendants used in the Ob-Ugrian culture from which the motif was stylised so that it was suited to be used as a belt ring. The same motif has been used in belt rings in the Sámi region across Finland, Sweden and Norway during the last century.
